VELD. is a Brussels based design studio focusing on the work field between architecture and urbanism.

work field

VELD. develops architectural design proposals strengthened by an urban approach towards architecture. VELD. develops urban strategies understanding building processes, technical requirements and economic realities on an architectural scale level.

fieldwork

VELD. believes in a context specific approach to design. We want to deliver authentic projects, reinforcing the identity of, and responding to, context and environment. Our design proposals are driven by context specific qualities, constraints and needs, different for every field of intervention. Therefore fieldwork is our starting point to any project.

open space

VELD. designs urban strategies and architecture that aim to reinforce the quality of the open space within and between built structures, rather than focusing on the design of architectural forms or objects itself.

research by design

VELD. uses the design process to develop knowledge and to guide the different stakeholders towards consensus. We aim to translate the realities and needs of a specific site and our client into qualities and opportunities through design.

VELD. is founded by three enthusiastic complementary architects and urban designers: Bruno Vanhaesebrouck, architect and urban designer, Véronique Tavernier, architect and civil engineer and Ben Dirickx, architect and urban designer.

Master in Urbanism and Strategic Planning (2011), Department of Engineering, KULeuven, Leuven

>> Ben Dirickx (Genk, 1985) has worked for over 10 years in various contexts and environments in the fields of architecture and urbanism. His international experiences have enabled him to develop a transversal view on urban challenges across different scales and contexts.

In Paris he worked for uapS on the major urban transformation of Ile de Nantes, a 350 ha island in the Loire right in the heart of Nantes. At uapS he also worked on several masterplans in the Belgian context like Deinze, Ekeren, and Diepenbeek.

For Studio Egret West in London, Ben worked on major urban reconversion projects such as Vicarage Field, a shopping mall to be converted in a mixed use neighbourhood just next to London and Coldhams Lane, the design of an ecological neigbourhood in Cambridge.
